'DUKES OF HAZZARD' cars

A set of 4 cars from the TV series The Dukes Of Hazzard made by Ertl is the highlight of my collection. I found these under the Christmas tree when I was 8 back in 1981, and I considered these cars to be among the greatest toys I ever had. That was the same Christmas when I kept flushing the toilet at my grandparents' house and calling it "entertainment." These days, kids expect Santa Claus to bring them the fanciest new video game consoles, but when I was growing up, I was excited to get just a few Dukes Of Hazzard cars. And I appreciated my cars, unlike how people today don't appreciate stuff.

It appears as if not every set included the same 4 cars as this one did. Some cars were also sold individually. When I was making this website, I found that a General Lee that was completely demolished beyond recognition was going for $34.99 on eBay. I've learned that Ertl also made a Dukes Of Hazzard layout that came with 5 cars. Different variations might include Cooter's truck or a white Corvette. I've also seen websites that show Uncle Jesse's pickup truck. One set of 3 cars has a blue Mustang. But I haven't seen any sets with Daisy's yellow Satellite that was totaled early in the series.

These cars are said to be standard 1:64 scale, and they're stunningly good quality. But 1:64 is longer than most cars of this type when you're dealing with 1969 Chargers or 1970s Cadillacs, so I had to cut notches into my car case to fit them in.

Before we get started on this batch of cars, here's some wisdom from Uncle Jesse...

Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane's patrol car. The base of the car reveals that it's a 1980 Pontiac Bonneville.

Boss Hogg's Cadillac convertible.

Daisy's Jeep.

Yeeeeeeee-haw! I used to jump this General over other cars and items in my layouts. This is certainly better quality than some other toy Generals I've seen. A kid in elementary school once brang in a larger supposed General that was actually just a Pinto painted vaguely like the General and had "10" instead of "01." They might as well have just used a Horizon. One of the doors on my parents' Horizon actually became permanently jammed shut at some point, so I had to climb in and out through the window like it was the General.
